C A R I S S A L A M: Florence 2016

27 July 2016

Florence 2016

Second stop in Italy: Florence.
After 4 days in Rome, we travelled by train to Florence and visited places such as Ponte Vecchio, Florence Cathedral, Basilica of Santa Croce, Palazzo Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria, Piazzale Michelangelo, Piazza del Duomo and Ponte Santa Trinita.

Florence is quite an old-looking city, but it still has a very authentic feel to it like Rome. There were so many tourists everywhere, and although people say Florence is quite expensive, we thought it wasn't that expensive - prices were similar to Rome and cheaper than in London. Florence is not actually very big, so it was easy to get around on foot or by bus to visit the main attractions. If you're going to visit Florence, make sure you visit the tourist information centre that's just across the road from the Firenze SMN train station as they will give you a map of Florence and can give you details about how to get around. We found this so helpful!
We stopped at a dessert café and had waffles and ice-cream and macaroons :P
One famous thing in Florence is their Florentine Steak - it is really good and is a must-try! It is found in almost all restaurants there so it is easy to spot.
And more food...
We had also wanted to visit the Leaning Tower of Pisa (in Pisa) which would be a short train journey away from Florence, but unfortunately I was ill so we couldn't go :( but hopefully I can visit it some time in the future. Overall, Florence was a nice place to visit but there's not a lot to do there, so staying 3 days there was enough for us :) Our next stop from our Italy trip was Venice, which will be in the next blog post so keep an eye out! :D
